This painting was inspired by a North Florida afternoon as the landscape transitioned into fall. Golden grasses began to emerge across the fields and along roadsides, and smoke from a nearby forest fire settled over the area, creating a mysterious veil that transformed the light.

Live oak trees canopied around a lake and surrounded by rolling hills create the most beautiful tunnel views into neighboring glens and hammocks. This favorite walking spot, with its dappled light and frequent sightings of white-tailed deer, became the inspiration for this "little gem" after a walk shared with my husband and son.

This petite painting began en plein air at Maclay Gardens, where my sister and I spent a bright winter morning wandering the garden with our pochade boxes and easels, chasing the changing light with paintbrushes in hand. It was later completed in my home studio, preserving the feeling of that peaceful day outdoors.
